What's Under the 2022 Ram 1500's Hood?

For the eight models available in the 2022 Ram 1500 lineup, there are 5 different powertrain options depending on the trim level you choose. The first up is the 3.6-liter eTorque Pentastar V6, which provides 305 horsepower, and 269 lb-ft of torque. Next up is the diesel option, a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, which provides 260 horsepower and a whopping 480 lb-ft of torque. Moving up from there, we see two 5.7-liter HEMI V8 options, both of which offer variable-valve timing (VVT), and deliver 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The difference between the two is that one option adds on a 48-volt eTorque mild-hybrid system, which further boosts its fuel efficiency alongside the VVT. Topping off the list is a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 which kicks out a heart-pounding 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. As you can see, there is a huge variety of options here, depending on just how much power you desire.

What Trim Levels Are Offered in 2022?

The 2022 model year is shaking up the trim level lineup compared to what we've seen in 2021. The base trim level is still the trusty Tradesman, a tried and true work truck that offers all the essentials, followed by the Tradesman HFE which features the EcoDiesel engine. Next, the Big Horn model (also known as Lone Star) features the newly available BackCountry package, which has an outdoorsy theme and includes both the Bed Utility Group, and the Off-Road Group. The Big Horn is followed by the Rebel, another great off-road option known for its sporty red and black interior. Next up is the Laramie, followed by the Longhorn Southfork. This model replaces the Limited Longhorn we saw in 2021, but brings along many new features you're bound to love. The Limited has been replaced by the Limited 10th Anniversary Edition, which celebrates the decade-long legacy of the Ram 1500, and the lineup is finished out by the ever-powerful TRX, which notably features the supercharged 6.2-liter V8.

What are the New Features of the 2022 Ram 1500 Lineup?

As mentioned above, there are a few new updates to the trim level offerings, and we want to go into more detail about what these updates mean in terms of new features to enjoy. Starting with the BackCountry package, this available add-on will equip the Big Horn with black accents througout the exterior, as well as off-road features like hill-descent control, skid plates, tow hooks, and off-road shocks. It also adds bed features like spray-in bedliner, a cargo divider, and a bed step. The new Longhorn SouthFork trim level has a similar Southwestern theme as the previous Longhorn model, and includes features like Mountain Brown leather bucket seats, a laser-engraved filigree design, all-terrain tires, and the Bed Utility Group. The Limited 10th Anniversary Edition is also new, and features a new exterior color option called Blue Shade. It also includes a 19-speaker premium audio system, quilted leather seats, and 22-inch polished wheels. Lastly, there's a new G/T package available for both the Rebel and the Laramie trims, in the Crew Cab configuration. The G/T package includes a flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters, a black grille with cold air intake, a metal pedal kit, and all-weather floor mats.

New Technology for the 2022 Ram 1500

One of the standout features of the 2022 Ram 1500 is the new Uconnect 5 infotainment system. This is the newest generation of this technology, with faster speeds and more memory storage than the previous version. The Uconnect 5 will come standard with the Big Horn and all subsequent trim levels, and will include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, available Amazon Alexa assistant technology, integrated TomTom navigation with Over-The-Air updates, and multiple user profiles to save the preferences of anyone who might be behind the wheel. With the Uconnect 5, you can customize your digital gauge cluster to show any of your favorite or most-used features, and even save physical adjustments like seating placement, temperature settings, and more. The 2022 1500 will also come with the Ram Clean Air System as standard equipment on all trim levels. This system helps remove allergens like bacteria, pollen, and dust from the air, filtering out up to 19% of air particulates for clean, high-quality air inside your cabin.
