Heavy-Duty Truck FAQs

What is the difference between 3/4-ton and 1-ton trucks?

Historically, these names referred to payload capacity, but today they represent the vehicle class. A 3/4-ton (2500) is ideal for most personal fifth-wheel towing, while a 1-ton (3500) often features a dual-rear-wheel (dually) option to handle heavier pin weights and higher payload requirements.

Is “Dodge Ram” the same as Ram?

Yes—many people still search “Dodge Ram,” but the brand is Ram. You will see the trucks listed as Ram 2500 and Ram 3500.

Can I roll accessory and lift kit costs into my truck financing?

Often, yes. One advantage of buying at Dave Smith Motors is that our accessories team can upfit your truck on-site. Eligible accessories may be included in your vehicle financing so you have one streamlined monthly payment.

What does GVWR mean and why does it matter?

GVWR stands for Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. It is the maximum weight your truck can safely weigh including the vehicle itself, passengers, fuel, and payload (like your trailer's pin weight). Exceeding your GVWR can create safety issues and legal liability.

Does Dave Smith Motors deliver heavy-duty trucks nationwide?

Yes. We work with customers across the country and can help coordinate delivery options. Many customers also fly into Spokane and drive their new truck home from Kellogg.
