2022 Wagoneer vs Ford Expedition

Dave Smith CDJR decided to compare to American full-size SUVs, the All-new Wagoneer and the Ford Expedition. Which SUV is the biggest? Which one has the most power? We investigate these questions and more below. But, first, let's see how the Wagoneer and Expedition stack up.

2022 Wagoneer Power & Handling

The Wagoneer offers legendary power from the 5.7L V8 engine with eTorque that delivers up to 392 horsepower, 404 lb-ft of torque, and a best-in-class maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds power reaching the ground through a proven 8-speed automatic transmission. Plus, the mild-hybrid system adds low-end torque for impressive starting power and off-road capability. Buyers have their pick of three outstanding four-wheel-drive systems. Quadra-Trac I is an always engaged 4x4 system that features the Selec-Terrain Traction Management System for all-weather capability. Wagoneers Quadra-Trac II system also features the Selec-Terrain Traction Management System but adds a two-speed low transfer case. Quadra-Drive II is an incredible automatic 4x4 system that can take you where you need to go. Using the ParkView Rear Back-Up Camera featuring an available Trailer Hitch Zoom with Line-Up Assist, you can easily reverse and connect your trailer.

2021 Ford Expedition Power & Handling

Ford's EcoBoost technology powers the Expedition with the powerful 3.5L EcoBoost with 375 horsepower is a direct injection engine with twin air-to-air intercooler turbochargers. The combination of aluminum-intensive construction, turbocharged V6 engine, and 10-speed transmission doesn't exactly make the Expedition sprightly, but it's more responsive and accelerative than its dimensions might suggest. The 10-speed SelectShift transmission has a wide-ratio span and optimized gear spacing that help improve responsiveness and performance during acceleration. The independent front and rear suspension deliver impressive handling, cornering, and stability. Rear-wheel drive is the basic setup, with all-wheel drive on the options list. This system comes with a terrain-response function to maximize traction on different surfaces and the option of a 2-speed set up with an electronic locking differential.

2022 Wagoneer Features & Design

The Wagoneer's interior offers cut-above styling and premium levels of luxury. As such, the interior is highlighted by Nappa leather and a one-piece dash with a digital instrument cluster and either a 10.1-inch or a 12.0-inch reconfigurable Uconnect 5 infotainment screen. This new Uconnect system is five times faster than the previous infotainment system, and it comes with Tom-Tom navigation, five user profiles, and tons of USB ports. Plus, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with a wireless smartphone charging pad and a WiFi hotspot for up to eight devices. The Wagoneer offers 39 inches of headroom in the third row and 36 inches of legroom, and 27.4 cubic feet of cargo space in the back, which increases to 70.8 when the seat is folded. Max capacity, with both rows folded, is 117 cubic feet.

2021 Ford Expedition Features & Design

The Expeditions interior offers a premium look and feel thanks to the controls' knurled surfaces for things like volume, temperature, gearshift, and the driving-mode selector. Second-row passengers enjoy comfortable seats with up to 42.6 inches of legroom. The new-for-2021 Expedition XL trim offers that third row of power-folding and reclining seats as an option. Cargo space is more than ample with 20.9 cubic feet, which will expand to 104.6 behind the front seats. The Expedition comes with a 4.2 inches touchscreen that is less than half the Wagoneer's standard 10.1-inch screen size. Buyers can upgrade to smart-charging USBs and wireless charging, but you will have to pull out those wires if you want to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto as wireless is not available.
